Karla, agreed — volunteerism has opened a number of career opportunities in my life as well. I’ve heard from a few folks that ‘service to others’ is also the key to happiness — it’s a win-win!

I have such strong feelings about this! Own your own career, make the investment in yourself to seek feedback, keep up with and learn the latest, hold your self accountable for your attitude and performance. These keys make you more marketable when you do need to look for a new job. Always be open to new opportunity knowing that like this post says, there is no guarantee of job security. My own current position is the direct result of networking through volunteerism.

It was great to have you & Job Rooster here in Wilkes-Barre for the event Nick. Seeing students’ faces light up to get job and internship search assistance along with water (we had a great table next to hot wings, didn’t we?) made my night!
