HOW DO I SIGN-UP?
Anyone can sign-up for job Rooster by texting the word “JOBS” to CROWS (27697). (MetroPCS/Cricket Users – text “JOBS” to (415) 787-3906). You’ll get one message with our legal terms & conditions (sorry, our lawyers force us to send this!) and another text asking for your ZIP code and ideal job title(s). We ask for this information to make sure that the jobs opportunities we send you are local and relevant to what you’re looking for. We recommend that you text us 3-4 job titles (e.g. medical assistant, administrative assistant, medical technician, etc) to get the most out of our service. Once you do this, you’ll be all ready to start receiving job opportunities by text message!
CAN I SIGN-UP ONLINE INSTEAD?
Yes, we give you the option of signing up via either your mobile phone or the Internet. If you’d like to go online to sign up, point your web browser to http://jobrooster.com/signup. After that, just follow the simple online directions. You will be sent a verification code to your mobile phone. You must enter this code on our Sign Up page to fully complete your registration. Once you do this, you’ll be ready to start receiving job opportunities by text message!
WHY DO YOU HAVE A 5-DIGIT NUMBER AND DO I HAVE TO ADD AN AREA CODE IN FRONT OF IT?
The number we ask you to text (unless you’re a MetroPCS/Cricket user) is called a short code – just think of it as a phone number with fewer digits. And no, you don’t need to add an area code in front of it, regardless of where you are in the United States.
WHY CAN’T I TEXT TO 27697 IF I HAVE METROPCS/CRICKET?
Unfortunately, MetroPCS/Cricket doesn’t accept our short-code so we have to ask you to text to a different number if you’re a MetroPCS/Cricket user. Other than the number that you text to, there is absolutely no difference in your how interact with Job Rooster or in the job opportunities that are texted to you.
WHAT DOES IT COST?
Job Rooster currently offers two types of service: one is a FREE version in which you receive 1 text message per day with up to 3 job matches; the second is a fixed monthly rate service (premium service) in which you can receive and apply to an unlimited number of jobs. Currently, our premium service costs $6.95/month.
WHY WOULD I PAY FOR PREMIUM SERVICE?
The main reason you might opt for our premium service is that it allows you to receive and apply to an unlimited number of jobs. However, we welcome you to demo Job Rooster using our free version and then decide later whether you’d like to upgrade to our premium service. Our premium service also comes with a number of other added benefits.
ARE THERE ANY OTHER COSTS? DOES JOB ROOSTER CHARGE ME A FEE FOR SENDING/RECEIVING TEXT MESSAGES?
Job Rooster does not charge you, the job seeker, for anything other than the premium service (if you opt for it). Whether you are charged a fee for sending and receiving text messages is determined solely by your agreement with your mobile phone carrier.
HOW SOON WILL I RECEIVE A JOB ALERT?
Once you’ve signed up for Job Rooster service we will send you a job match immediately. There can be a delay of up to 15 minutes on your mobile phone carrier’s end as our text message is pushed through the carrier’s system. Unfortunately, we have no control with regard to exactly when your job opportunity will be delivered to your mobile phone.
HOW MANY TEXT MESSAGES WILL I RECEIVE EVERY DAY?
Our default is one job alert every 24 hours regardless of whether you are signed up with the free version or the premium service. That is, unless you proactively respond to a job alert, Job Rooster will never send you more than one text message per day. However, if you are signed up for the premium service you are entitled to as many job alerts per day as you want (so long as there is a matching opportunity).
I’M SKEPTICAL. THE LAST TIME I TRIED A SERVICE LIKE JOB ROOSTER I FELT TRICKED INTO SIGNING UP – WHY ARE YOU DIFFERENT?
We are not like the other companies with whom you may have interacted previously using text messaging. We welcome you to demo our service for free. If you like what you see, you can still use it for free. There is no obligation to pay anything, and it is completely up to you to decide whether you’d like to use our paid premium service.
HOW DO YOU KNOW WHAT TYPE OF JOB I WANT?
Our goal is to tailor your job search to only those jobs you care about. To do so, we ask you a few simple questions (e.g. ZIP code, industry, pay range) to determine your interests, skills and compensation. Based on this information, we match job opportunities according to your specifications. To get the most out of our service, we invite you to further customize your search criteria by texting various keywords. (See the complete list below under “Managing My Account.”)
WHERE DO YOU GET YOUR JOB LISTINGS?
We get all of our job listings from our partner organizations, which include various employers, job boards, government agencies, and non-profits. By partnering with a wide array of organizations, we ensure that you have access to a vast database of constantly updated job listings.
WHY CAN’T I APPLY TO ALL JOBS DIRECTLY FROM MY PHONE?
We get jobs from two sources – from our partner employers who enter jobs directly in our system and also from various job boards (such as Beyond.com and Indeed.com). Jobs from our partners also include a few questions which allow them to pre-qualify you for the opening – you can apply directly to these jobs from your phone. Openings that are pulled from the job boards have basic information about the position and no pre-qualifying questions – to apply to these jobs you will have to go online. (Stay tuned, we are working on a way for you to be able to apply to these jobs directly from your phone as well!).
WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN “APPLY” AND “SEND TO E-MAIL”?
If you send a job alert to your e-mail you are simply moving the job alert, not applying to the job. To apply to a job you must follow the instructions in the job alert.
I APPLIED TO A JOB – NOW WHAT?
Once the employer has received a desired number of applicants, they will close the job. If you meet their requirements, you will get a text letting you know of next steps (interview etc). However, if for some reason you are not chosen, you will still be notified. We’ll never leave you hanging.
I DIDN’T GET THE JOB – ANY SUGGESTIONS?
Yes! If you aren’t selected for an opening we want to make sure next time you qualify for a similar position. Based on the job requirements, we may text you recommendations for local volunteer positions or courses you can take from a local college to build-up your skill set.
WILL I GET SPAMMED/GET TOO MANY TEXT MESSAGES?
No, Job Rooster will never spam you. Job Rooster only sends you job alerts from our partners. You have control over how many text messages you receive from us.
HOW DO YOU USE MY PHONE NUMBER?
Based on your consent, we use your phone number only to text you job alerts or surveys/announcements from organizations you may be following. Your privacy and trust is our number one concern. We pledge to never sell or share your phone number or other personal information with any third-parties, marketing companies or mailing lists.
DO I HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT BEING DISTURBED BY YOUR MESSAGES IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT?

HOW DO I STOP JOB ROOSTER SERVICE?
You can end Job Rooster service by texting the word “STOP” to 27697. Job Rooster will stop sending you text messages of any kind unless you decide to restart the service at a later time (see below). You can view your entire job history (including all jobs you’ve applied to) by logging-on to your Job Rooster account online at http://jobrooster.com/login.
HOW CAN I CHANGE MY PROFILE SETTINGS USING KEYWORDS?
You have two options for changing your job search criteria: (1) login to your personal dashboard at www.jobrooster.com and change the appropriate settings there; (2) text one of the following keywords using your mobile phone to 27697:
